ADOPTION GUIDELINES
As a private shelter, RappCats is able work with you to find the right cat for your family and help you understand how to care for your new pet for years of rewarding companionship.
We like to think of our cats as part of the family – and we remind new owners that adopting a cat can be up to a 20 year commitment. We are always available for advice after your adoption is complete.
All potential adopters must fill out an application here: Adoption Application
A RappCats adoption counselor will work with you to fill out this application. We will discuss with you the type of cat you’re looking for, and your home environment.
- We prefer that our cats be adopted as indoor companions. Cats that stay indoors live longer, healthier lives.
- We ask for a reference, preferably from your veterinarian. We may also call your landlord, if you are a renter. Usually, the process to check references takes a business day or two.
- If you have not yet met the selected cat, we will arrange an in-person or virtual meeting. We also do a brief home visit to ensure that everyone (including any other pets) will be comfortable with your new cat. During COVID precautions, we are doing virtual home visits.
- You must sign our adoption contract, in which you promise to care for the cat, and to return the cat to us if you can no longer care for him or her. We do not ever want our cat to wind up in a public shelter.
- We charge an adoption fee of $150, which helps to cover the costs of spaying or neutering the cat, needed medical care and all appropriate shots. We will return the adoption fee if you decide the cat does not fit and you return the cat to us within the first 30 days.
